Big Brother China edition was announced as a collaboration between Youku Tudou Inc. and Endemol China and the production for the first season of Big Brother China Edition has been set in a former industrial factory on the outskirts of Mumbai, Lonavala to be specific, which we hear is an upgraded location from the Big Brother Kannada Version.
According to Ryan Cheung, managing director at Chinese video giant Youku Tudou, “The decision to shoot abroad was “driven by the available experience and existing infrastructure of Endemol India.” Endemol has brought in an experienced team to produce the format’s high-stakes debut for the China market, including Rebecca De Young, former producer of the U.K. version and a crew of 400 from the Indian version of Big Brother, which has run for eight seasons. Endemol India CEO Deepak Dhar was also seen on the sets.
The show will run for 10 weeks and will be shown exclusively on Chinese video giant, Youku Tudou and is being co-produced by Endemol Shine China. The managing director of Endemol Shine China, William Tan believes that the online telecast would give them an added advantage of viewer interaction which suffers when a show is telecast on television. The makers of the show are taking strict measures to make sure that the Chinese viewers will never guess that Big Brother China wasn’t produced at home. The full cast had been flown in from China, and the show won’t betray a single hint of its Indian setting. The Chinese title for ‘Big Brother’ will be, “Housemates, Let’s Stay Together.”
Although rumors have been going around that Wu Yifan and Luhan are contestants of this show, there has been no official release on it. This is also not the first time that it has been rumored that the two will be a part of a Chinese reality show or a movie. With former EXO members, Luhan and Kris on one show tele casted 24/7, if confirmed, this will definitely be interesting to watch. However, the cast of ‘Big Brother China’ has not been revealed. It has only been revealed that the show will included 10 participants, 5 male and 5 female. According to Hollywood reporter, however, there is definitely one female singer and one ‘Macho’ man.
If Indian Television, the main source for this news is to be believed, the sets and preparation for it has got over on 18th September and the team who had flown in to prepare the sets etc has now flown back to China. It maybe mentioned that Chinese Show, ‘Let’s eat together’ is currently shooting in Sri Lanka. Super Junior member, Leeteuk had shot an episode and 2PM Chansung is still filming. China is definitely coming closer to home for locations and it is therefore not a surprise.
‘Big Brother China’ being shot in India is the beginning of exchange between India and China. Currently, India and China has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on an audio-visual co-production treaty which aims to bring the film industries of the two large countries together.
According to Chinese sources, the shoot for ‘Big Brother China’ will begin filming on November. With former EXO members, Wu Yifan, Luhan joining the acting wagon, if not this, maybe we can expect something in future but for now, lets hope that they are confirmed contestants of the show!
Fans are now eagerly waiting for the confirmed list of ‘Big Brother China’ contestants to see who will be coming to India!
