EXO (엑소) who have broken records ever since their debut back in 2011 has another feather to add in their hat! The power group from SM Entertainment have become the first foreign male artist to rank #1 on Oricon‘s ‘Rookie Sales‘. As you know, EXO just made their debut in Japan despite having been actively promoting in Korea for quite a while and have an incredibly huge international fanbase.
EXO’s debut single in Japan was titled ‘Love Me Right ~ romantic universe ~‘ and sold 187,000 copies! Their Korean album ‘EXODUS‘ also sold 60,000 copies in Japan! This may be old news to some EXO-L’s out there. So what new record did your lovely ‘oppa’s break this time?
EXO was ranked #1 in sales revenue amongst all rookie artists’ singles and #1 in album sales amongst all rookie artists on the Oricon chart!
Their debut Japanese two-track single ‘Love Me Right ~ romantic universe ~‘ featuring the tracks ‘Love Me Right‘ and ‘Drop That‘ also had the highest sales in it’s first week of release amongst all foreign artists’ debut singles with 147,000 sales that week!
Oricon Style has stated – “In the ’48th annual ranking for 2015′, EXO won the triple crown for new artists. Their revenue was 900 million yen (over $7.4 million U.S.). It’s the first time that a foreign male artist has had the highest amount of sales among rookie artist sales for the year.”
