EXO Lay to star in India-China production Movie ‘Kung Fu Yoga’

Remember when we wrote about Big Brother China Edition and how we wished the rumors of former EXO members Kris and Luhan joining the cast in India were true? Well, we don’t know about that for now but seems like good things are definitely happening and wishes are coming true! It’s confirmed that EXO Member Lay also known as Zhang Yixing will be joining the cast of ‘Kung fu Yoga’.

Why is it a good news for Indian KPOP Fans? Well, ‘Kung Fu Yoga’ is the first of the 3 film agreement under the  India-China co-production agreement which was signed during President Xi Jinping’s visit in India last September. Taking into account the vast popularity of Indian films (known as Bollywood) in China, this agreement was made for bridging the ties between the two countries and hence the cast consists of both Chinese and Indian actors. The production of this movie is being jointly done by Shinework Media,  Taihe Entertainment and Viacom18 Motion Pictures. Lay will be seen sharing the screen space with Jackie Chan, Ming Hu, Aarif Rahman and noted Indian actor Tiger Shroff. Indian Actors Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif was earlier suppose to be a part of this movie but they both dropped out due to scheduling conflict.

[Update] Katrina Kaif has unfortunately dropped out of the movie just before the filming was to begin and as of now, there is no confirmed cast for female actress. Considering how Aamir Khan was approached before Tiger Shroff, it is speculated that an Indian actress will replace Katrina Kaif.

Katrina Kaif was suppose to play an Indian professor at a Chinese university while Jackie Chan plays a Chinese archaeologist who enlists her help for unearthing treasures from the Magadha era in the dynasty of King Bimbisara who was known for his cultural achievements and was a great friend and protector of Gautam Buddha. As the movie title suggests the movie is based on the Chinese martial art Kungfu and the art of Yoga, which originated in ancient India and is now widely practiced around the world.  It recounts the history of cultural exchange between China and India.

The locations for the shoot has been confirmed as Dubai, South Korea, China, Spain and other places. As of now, India is not listed on the location list yet, but on March this year, Jackie Chan was quoted saying,  “I am planning to start a new movie called Kung Fu Yoga. So, I will be returning to film it in India. Hopefully, we will start filming in autumn.”

The filming has been confirmed for September end or early October and there is no information on which role Lay will be playing but we hope that he gets to film with Tiger Shroff and well, if Jackie Chan keeps his word, we might just see him in India! But if not, we still have him starring in an India-China production movie and sharing screen with Indian celebrities and this is just the first of the three movie agreement so this could definitely be a wonderful beginning of exchange.

Wishing Lay and the whole cast of ‘Kung Fu Yoga’ lots of success!
