Even idols are not immune to the ‘bad timing syndrome’, I guess.
On August 15, Tiffany took to her Instagram and posted a picture of her, Sooyoung and Yuri at “SMTOWN Live Tour V In Japan”, with the caption “Babes” followed by Japenese flag emoji and heart emoji. Though the purpose of that emoji was just to indicate that they were in Japan, but because of the bad timing of the post being on August 15 (August 15 is celebrated as National Liberation Day in Korea i.e a day to celebrate its freedom from the Japanese rule), netizens grew furious with her choice of emojis.
Coming true to the idiom, “Whether the glass is half full or half empty“, Tiffany’s fans defended her by stating that the post was a little late on the 14th, while others said that it was early on the 15th. Though, tiffany later edited out and removed the caption.
The situation worsened when Tiffany updated her Snapchat with a “Tokyo, Japan” and the rising sun sticker. The rising sun is associated with Japanese rule in Korea.
After realising her mistake and how that affected her fans and other people, Tiffany uploaded a picture on her Instagram account seeking an apology.
It translates to:- “Hello it’s Tiffany, I apologise for upsetting so many people on such a meaningful day. I’m embarrassed for disappointing people with this mistake of mine, and I’m repentant of my action. In future, I’ll make sure to remember that a lot of people are watching actions and words, therefore, I’ll work hard towards becoming someone who thinks carefully before acting and make sure that such mistake is not repeated again. Once again, I apologize for disappointing people because of my lapse.”
Even this apology of hers wasn’t enough to cool down the fire that came to life by her choice of emojis and sticker. Viewers of “Unnies’ Slam Dunk” are demanding for her to leave the show on the show’s community forum.
