The Wonder Girls are a force to be reckoned with and their long-awaited comeback album “REBOOT” has received and is in fact still receiving much international recognition. The K-Pop girl group’s heavily 1980s inspired album was released earlier this year in August after a two-year long hiatus and ranks at #18 on Fuse’s ‘20 Best Albums of 2015.’
The Wonder Girls are a group that tends to delve into more retro styles of music but this time they’ve re-invented that retro sound and made it something that is easy to listen to even today. The lead single “I Feel You” from their third studio album is catchy, bubbly and everything you could possibly want from an 80s inspired pop song.
“I Feel You” is the Wonder Girls’ first single since Sunye and Sohee’s departure from the group and is also the first single to feature Sunmi since their 2009 hit “Nobody.”
The single went on to chart at #1 on eight different music charts – Gaon, Melon, Monkey3, Bugs, Olleh Music, Soribada, Genie and Naver – with the album peaking at #5 on the Gaon Album Chart, #2 on the Billboard World Albums chart and #25 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Album Chart.
Fuse commented on “REBOOT” saying that – “It wasn’t just a successful K-pop comeback, but proved the strength of Wonder Girls’ initial concept: They’re still a throwback group, but have shifted the focus for further domination.”
JYP Entertainment’s Park Jin Young, better known as just JYP took to his personal Instagram account to gush about the Wonder Girls in his post. The post is captioned – “I only wrote one song on the album and the rest of the songs were all written/co-written by the members. They put in so much time and effort to recreate the 80′s synth pop sound throughout the whole album. It’s wonderful to have people recognize this. I’m so proud of the girls and I’m really looking forward to their next album!”
