It has been confirmed that YG Entertainment is gearing up to debut a new girl group in July this year!

This is the first time YG will be debuting a girl group in seven years since the immensely popular YG girl group 2NE1 debuted back in 2009. There were several recent reports that the YG Entertainment CEO, Yang Hyun Suk had met music video directors to deliberate about recordings for the upcoming girl group.

Apparently there had also been talks about YG’s new girl group in the past. Yang Hyun Suk had himself stated in an interview to OSEN last year that he is putting together a girl group with “pretty members“. There was also a rumour that the group were to be called ‘PINK PUNK’. Since then, there has been a lot of hype and anticipation for the upcoming girl group. Though the confirmed members have not been revealed as of now, we are waiting with bated breath for the big unveiling.

The news has now been confirmed by a YG representative stating, “We checked with Yang Hyun Suk. There is a new girl group debuting in July this year. Though the debut date of July has not been revealed yet, but the group is currently undergoing final preparations. The member line-up had been decided a long time ago and the fact that Yang Hyun Suk is preparing the music video means that their debut song has already been recorded.”

They also stated that the YG trainees – former ‘Unpretty Rapstar 2‘ contestant Moon Sua and ‘K-Pop Star 3‘ contestant Jang Hana are not members of the new group.  Now, YG trainees Kim Jisoo and Jenny Kim are the only speculated candidates left for the highly anticipated girl group. However, the representative also revealed that the new girl group would be featuring many new faces.

After launching boy groups WINNER and iKON who made waves in the music industry, not to mention the legacy of K-pop industry stalwarts like PSY, BIGBANG and 2NE1 amongst others, YG is readying it’s arsenal for a new girl group.

Fans of YG, are you ready to welcome the new girl group from the house of YG?
